Shoreview roofing under a full tree canopy
Shoreview is wooded lakeside living, which is lovely and hard on roofs. Packed valleys, shaded north slopes and a storm record in both of the last two seasons. We walk it and photograph it.
Shoreview sits in northern Ramsey County between Roseville, Mounds View, North Oaks and Vadnais Heights, wrapped around Turtle Lake, Snail Lake and the north end of Lake Owasso. Most of the city was built between the mid 1950s and the mid 1980s on wooded, gently rolling lots, with newer infill since. The result is a housing mix of ramblers and splits from the earlier decades alongside larger two stories from the later ones, almost all of it under mature tree canopy. That canopy shapes a lot of what goes wrong on roofs here. Roofs R Us has worked Shoreview since 2000 from our shop in Blaine, about fifteen minutes northwest.
What goes wrong on Shoreview roofs
Canopy is the defining condition here, and it is worth being specific about what it costs. Oak, maple and pine drop enough material to fill a valley by November. Debris sitting in a valley keeps the shingle wet at the coldest, most exposed line on the roof, which is where wear shows first and where ice starts. A full gutter then sends its overflow behind the fascia instead of down the downspout, and the sheathing at the eave softens with nothing visible from inside the house. North slopes under shade stay damp through the season, streak with algae, and freeze before the rest of the roof. Branches resting on shingles sand the surface a little further in every wind event.
Attic airflow is the second condition, and it belongs to the older half of the city. Those attics were framed before intake ventilation was standard, and the reroofs since have added exhaust at the ridge without opening the eave. Blown insulation from a later energy retrofit typically seals whatever intake survived. Exhaust with nothing feeding it does not ventilate an attic. It bakes the shingles from below in July, grows frost on the sheathing in January, and builds the hard ice ridge that shows up on the same eave every February.
On the newer and larger homes the story is geometry. Steep pitches, multiple intersecting gables, garage returns meeting two story walls, and vaulted or bonus room spaces with almost no attic above them. Two conditions recur on that stock: kickout flashings left off those garage returns, which send water behind the siding, and vault cavities with no air channel above the insulation, which produce ice at the overhang every winter. Neither is a shingle problem and neither is solved by adding shingles.
Storm and hail work in Shoreview
Shoreview is named directly in the record. National Weather Service storm reports for June 9, 2026 log several trees down in Shoreview, filed one mile east of the city, on the same morning the NWS logged large branches and trees down two miles east of North Oaks and many trees down in Centerville. Ten days later, on June 19, 2026, a hail line crossed immediately south of here and produced measurements from one inch up to two inches through Roseville, Falcon Heights and Little Canada, with a spotter reporting the ground in Roseville completely covered with hail. Storm reports for June 19, 2026 are public too.
Trees coming down in the city is solid evidence about the wind and no evidence at all about your shingles. Wind mostly leaves creases, which do not leak until they crack through in a later freeze. Hardness, wind, shingle product, workmanship and age all move the answer, and under a full canopy the granule loss and mat bruising that follow are hard to see from the ground. The inspection is free and the photographs are yours whether anything follows or not.

WHAT WE DO ON INSURANCE WORK, AND WHAT WE DO NOT
We are your roofing contractor, not your adjuster
What we do
- Inspect the roof and photograph the damage we can observe.
- Give you an itemized estimate to repair or replace it.
- Be there when your adjuster visits, if you want us there.
- Answer construction questions about the roof itself.
- Build the work you hire us to perform.
What we will not do
- Interpret your policy or tell you what it covers.
- Predict or promise what your insurer will decide.
- Advise you on filing, timing or any policy duty.
- Pay, rebate or absorb any part of your deductible. Minnesota Statute 325E.66 makes that illegal for every residential contractor in this state.
Questions about coverage, filing or timing belong with your agent or your carrier, not with a roofing crew in Shoreview. If someone knocking on your door offers to cover your deductible, that is not a discount. It is a law being broken.
Straight answers.
Was Shoreview actually named in a storm report?+
Yes. National Weather Service storm reports for June 9, 2026 log several trees down in Shoreview. Wind that takes out mature trees creases shingles, and a creased shingle does not leak until it cracks through the following winter, which is why it is worth checking now rather than then.
My valleys fill with needles and leaves every fall. Does it matter?+
Yes. A packed valley holds water against the shingle at the coldest part of the roof, which is where wear and ice both begin, and the overflow from a full gutter runs behind the fascia. Clearing valleys and gutters twice a year is the cheapest maintenance available on a Shoreview roof.
Are gutter guards worth it under this canopy?+
Sometimes. A good guard under heavy oak can turn four cleanings a year into one. A cheap guard under the same trees becomes a solid mat you cannot reach. We will tell you which category your roof falls into rather than selling guards by default.
Did the June 19, 2026 hail reach Shoreview?+
The confirmed measurements were immediately south, through Roseville, Falcon Heights and Little Canada, where the NWS logged stones from one inch up to two inches. Hail bands are narrow and streaky, so whether your roof took it needs an inspection. It is free and it takes under an hour.
How far are you from Shoreview?+
About fifteen minutes. Our shop is at 10078 Flanders Ct NE in Blaine. Call and we will get you on the schedule, and an active leak moves you up it.
