Asphalt shingles are permitted at 2:12 and steeper. Slopes from 2:12 up to, but not including, 4:12 require double underlayment. Below 2:12, use a roof covering approved for that slope, often a membrane system. Sections on this housing frequently sit under that line, or just above it with a single layer of underlayment beneath them. Both hold water at the seams, and the water usually ends up in a wall rather than on a ceiling where it would get noticed.

On June 19, 2026 a hail line crossed the area and the NWS logged quarter sized hail with minor tree damage in Fridley, immediately south, and half dollar hail at Columbia Heights on a track that reached over two inches further east.
