Third is ventilation on the vaulted and bonus room sections that were popular when much of Ham Lake was built, from the late 1980s through the 2000s. There is no real attic above a vaulted great room or a bonus space over the garage. Warm air sits against the deck, melts the snow lying on it, and the meltwater refreezes when it reaches the cold overhang. That is the ice ridge in the same spot every January. It takes an air channel above the insulation, real intake at the soffit and air sealing to stop, and it does not respond to more shingles.

National Weather Service storm reports for July 28, 2025 log a bent metal gate and multiple large branches snapped near Highway 65 and 125th Avenue, three miles north of Blaine, which is the Blaine and Ham Lake boundary. The same evening the NWS logged an eight to ten inch tree snapped north of Coon Rapids and trees down in Lino Lakes. On June 19, 2026 a line of supercells crossed the north metro and produced quarter sized hail with tree damage at Fridley and half dollar hail at Columbia Heights, on a track that reached over two inches further east. Storm reports for June 19, 2026 are public too.
